Mary and Benjy Mann

Mary Mann and her youngest son Benjy in a photo from a family album.

The wife of Horace Mann—and sister of Elizabeth Palmer Peabody and Sophia Peabody Hawthorne—was an educator who substantially assisted her husband. Her writing and editing included a novel, letters, a cookbook, early childhood education papers, and the Life and Works of Horace Mann in three volumes.
