Barbara Sicherman, is co-editor of a biographical dictionary—Notable American Women: The Modern Period—published by Harvard University Press. She is a specialist in women’s and medical history. Sicherman is William R. Kennan, Jr., Professor of American Institutions and Values at Trinity College. In addition to her writing Alice Hamilton: A Life in Letters, she is the author of Sense and Sensibility: A Case Study of Women’s Reading in Late Victorian America and The Quest for Mental Health in America, 1880-1917
