Nine Unitarian Presidents of Harvard

1810-1933



This is the only known photograph of five Harvard Presidents together. From left to right, Josiah Quincy (1829-1845), Edward Everett (1846-1849), Jared Sparks (1849-1853), James Walker (1853-1860), and Cornelius Conway Felton (1860-1862).

In continuous service were nine presidents from 1810 to 1933, including John T. Kirkland, Thomas Hill, Charles W. Eliot, and A. Lawrence Lowell. In addition, two other Unitarians exercised the Office of President without the title: Henry Ware and Andrew Preston Peabody.
